The official Xinhua news agency said they were rescued during a police crackdown in Guangdong province.

China has a thriving black market in girls and women who are sold as brides, as well as babies who are abducted or bought from poor families and sold to couples who are childless or want more children.

China launched a nationwide campaign against the trafficking of women and children in April, and by May had already rescued 196 children and 214 women, breaking up 72 trafficking rings, Xinhua said.
