Accountancy student Khusbu Shah’s husband raised the alarm about her disappearance in Glasgow last Monday when she failed to return home.

The 21-year-old, who came to Scotland to study at Glasgow Caledonian University, was last seen alive by her husband, who called Strathclyde Police when he could not contact her mobile telephone.

Murder squad detectives have refused to say who found Ms Shah’s body in shrubbery in the Dennistoun area of Glasgow’s East End at lunchtime on Saturday, or reveal how she died.

It is understood that a post mortem examination failed to formally identify the victim, either due to the extent of the injuries she suffered or because of exposure.

The area around the bushes where Ms Shah was found remained sealed off.

The block of flats where the victim lived with her husband, who has not been named, was cordoned off as exhaustive forensic tests were carried out, and a blue Ford Mondeo which was parked outside the building was taken away for examination.

Neighbours said they saw officers remove the remains of 5ft 2ins Ms Shah from a woodland area near Alexandra Park.

One claimed the Ford car belonged to a suspicious man who had been watching the building where Ms Shah lived, prompting fears that she was being stalked.

She said: “There has been a man in a car watching that house for a week. We’re talking 24-hour surveillance. We wondered what was going on. Who was watching her and why?”

Ms Shah had been living in the UK for four years with her husband and studying part-time.

Detective Superintendent Michael Orr said: “I would appeal for anyone with information to come forward.”
