With the Gunners close to signing Belgium international Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax for £10m, it is believed Gallas will be allowed to leave.
Vermaelen’s arrival could help persuade Robin van Persie to sign a new contract after he demanded more quality recruits.
“It’s a good thing,” said Van Persie. “There’s nothing wrong with the quality of Vermaelen. He can play as left-back and central defender and we need this type of player. The guys that we now have in those positions are already somewhat older.”
Along with Gallas, Emmanuel Adebayor, Emmanuel Eboue and Kolo Toure will all be allowed to leave Arsenal this summer.
