Ray adds his choral Kink

FANS of The Kinks classic Waterloo Sunset were in for a treat as they walked along London’s South Bank this week – frontman Ray Davies was on the riverbank performing the 1967 hit as the sun went down.

Marking the release of his Kinks Choral Collection album, which features the Crouch End Festival Chorus, Ray, 64, put on a spine-tingling show. “When I get out there, I just do it,” he told Day & Night. “I’m not a trained singer and didn’t take any voice coaching.”

And as a North Londoner, he likes to keep things local. “I was in a café in Crouch End one day and I saw a guy holding a guitar case. I said ‘What’s your name?’ he said ‘Pete,’ and I said ‘Would you like to come rehearse?’ That was that, I found my guitarist.”

The bloke probably only popped in for a latte.
