O'Neal denies McEnroe snub at daughter's graduation ceremony

Oscar winner TATUM O'NEAL has dismissed reports of tension between herself and her ex-husband JOHN MCENROE after an alleged seating mix-up at their daughter's graduation ceremony last week (ends 12Jun09).

O'Neal is alleged to have been snubbed by organisers at New York's Trevor Day School when she turned up to celebrate 18-year-old Emily's academic success and was seated in the area for extended family members, according to the New York Post's Page Six.

The actress was reportedly furious when she spotted retired tennis star McEnroe, who divorced O'Neal in 1994 after eight years of marriage, seated with his wife Patti Smyth in front of the stage, in the space designated for graduates' close relatives.

A source tells the publication, "Tatum was in the balcony area for the extended family, and John was downstairs in the better seats, reserved for immediate family."

Another insider adds, "John and his wife, Patti, were completely ignoring Tatum."

But O'Neal - who also has two sons with McEnroe - has denied the claims, insisting the stars were courteous when they greeted one another as they were seated in the same area.

Her representative says, "Tatum went to say hello to relatives and returned to her assigned seat, in the immediate-family section."
