But Scottish Wimbledon hopeful Andy Murray faced a tougher challenge when he took on Beano heroes Dennis the Menace, Gnasher and the Bash Street Kids.

After his modelling session for Fred Perry clothing, the World No 3 and older brother Jamie took on characters like Beryl the Peril and Lord Snooty in the exclusive BeanoMAX tournament.

In today’s edition of the comic Beano’s Big Brother, aimed at 10-13-year-olds, the Dunblane brothers turn up to dash favourites Dennis and Gnasher’s hopes of winning the tournament.

They send Dennis, Gnasher, Bea and the Bash Street Kids running for cover when they ditch rackets and balls to fire fruit at them instead.

Andy, 22, tipped to become the first Brit since Perry to win Wimbledon, revealed he and Jamie used to be Menaces too, and his competitive streak still gets him into trouble off court.

The British No 1 added: “Jamie and I were competitive at everything. Now it’s not so bad. It’s more me and my team. We stayed at a hotel in China where they had an ice bath, and we tried to stay under the water longer and longer.”

Andy won his first tournament on grass last Sunday when he lifted the Aegon trophy after a 7-5, 6-4 win over James Blake.
