DRYSDALE SECURES A PARIS VACATION

FORM: Drysdale clinched fourth place in Munich

Monday June 29,2009

By Bernie McGuire

DAVID Drysdale continued his superb form by wrapping up a place in this week’s French Open in Paris after finishing joint fourth in Munich yesterday.

The Dunbar star needed to finish in the top 10 in the BMW International Open and he achieved that goal with a closing three-under-par 69 for a 17-under aggregate total on the Munchen Eichenried course.

Drysdale pocketed a cheque for £66,814 that sees him maintain his place as the leading Scot on the 2009 Race to Dubai money list and move up seven spots to 43rd with earnings of £304,685.

But of more immediate importance to Drysdale is that his top 10 showing in the Bavarian capital earned him an automatic place at this week’s French Open.

And life could not be better for the quietly spoken 34-year-old, who last week was given an invite into the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond ahead of making his Open Championship debut a week later at Turnberry.

Drysdale said: “I’m over the moon to finish in a share of fourth to also get into the French Open, so that’s superb.

“I wasn’t into France coming here to Germany and I knew I had to be in the top 10, so to come here and achieve that goal is extra pleasing.”

Drysdale’s fine performance in Germany comes on top of a second and third-place finish this year and easily guarantees a return to the main Tour next year.

He started slowly with just one birdie in his opening 12 holes but managed to sew up a place in France with birdies at 13, 16 and the last.

“I played nicely with just a couple of loose shots but I putted poorly,” he said.

“Two birdies in the last three holes was a nice way to finish and that’s got me into the French Open, so I am delighted knowing now that I am playing both the French and the Scottish Opens leading into Turnberry.”
