DOYLE: Goals

Tuesday June 30,2009

By Brendan Abbott

KEVIN DOYLE is confident Mick McCarthy’s Irish army at Molineux can be a Premier League success

Doyle has checked in as Wolves’ record signing in a £6.5million deal, after turning his back on Fulham and Sunderland.

He has reluctantly left behind Republic of Ireland team-mates Shane Long and Stephen Hunt at Reading, but Doyle has linked up with former Republic boss McCarthy and Ireland internationals Kevin Foley, Andy Keogh and Stephen Ward .

And he is backing Wolves to have the same kind of impact Reading did in their first season in the top flight . “I’m leaving one good set of Irish lads to join another,” said Doyle. “We finished a point or maybe even a goal away from Europe when we went up with Reading.

“I don’t know why we did so well, but we all went in there wide eyed and excited and fresh to play and that got us through.

“It was a bit like it is with Wolves now in that none of us had played in the Premier League before.

“I’m delighted to be joining what is historically a massive club and one which will be trying to establish itself in the Premier League this season. This is a fresh start for me.”

Doyle has signed a four-year deal with the club after scoring 18 goals in the Championship for the Royals last season.
