ITV: is to repeat Bashir expose

Thursday July 2,2009

By Tom Morgan

ITV is to repeat Martin Bashir’s notorious interview with Michael Jackson, which sparked concerns about his relationships with children and shattered his reputation.

Bashir followed the star for six months while he filmed Living With Michael Jackson, in which the singer defended inviting youngsters into his bed.

The repeat, on ITV1 on July 16, will be edited from its original 90 minutes to an hour, leaving out an interview with 12-year-old Gavin Arvizo, who spoke of his friendship with Jackson. The boy’s claims led to molestation charges but Jackson was later acquitted.

An ITV spokesman said: “There is clearly still an enormous interest among the public about Michael Jackson, following his tragic and untimely death, and we thought it was appropriate to give the public another chance to see highlights from this revealing film.”

Bashir was with Jackson when the singer ran onto the balcony at a Berlin hotel and briefly dangled one of his children over the edge.
