HAS THE CULT OF SCIENTOLOGY DRIVEN TOM CRUISE MAD?

Story Image

Tom and Katie have been criticised for their beliefs

Tuesday June 26,2007

HOLLYWOOD star Tom Cruise has been banned from filming his new blockbuster at German military bases because he is a Scientologist.

Cruise is currently making the movie Valkyrie, based on a German officers’ plot to kill Adolf Hitler near the end of the Second World War.

He has been cast as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, leader of the unsuccessful attempt to assassinate the Nazi dictator in July 1944 with a bomb hidden in a briefcase.

However, the production has been barred from using current military bases because of the German Defence Ministry’s fears that they will not get an “authentic portrayal” due to Cruise’s beliefs.

Defence Ministry spokesman Harald Kammerbauer said the film makers “will not be allowed to film at German military sites if Count Stauffenberg is played by Tom Cruise, who has publicly professed to being a member of the Scientology cult”.

What do YOU think? Has Tom Cruise lost all credibility because of a "cult"?

SCIENTOLOGY

I can not comment on what Tom Cruises' mental health is like, nor am I interested, but as someone who was almost taken in by this cult some years ago, I am pleased that the German military have taken a stand on this,it is about time someone did. This cult preys on vulnerable and naive people and brainwashes them and it does not surprise me that so many Americans have fallen for it.

PERHAPS TOM'S MEGALOMANIA REMINDED GERMANY OF...

26.06.07, 5:13pm

I have nothing good, bad or indifferent to say about Scientology. Hollywood has many actors besotted by this “religion” or “cult” (your preference is permitted) who, unlike Tom, are not perceptibly “unstable”. Cruise did himself and his chosen faith a disservice, when pontificating and betraying his ignorance (regarding postpartum depression and mental-illness issues) and megalomania not long ago. To me, he came across as a man aspiring to control this woefully, mislead world.
Come to think of it, perhaps this is why Germany said “nein” to his film. As I recall, they had a control-freak at the helm not so long ago, and decided enough is enough.
In his defence however, Posh and David, seemingly, like Tom, perhaps I am being too nit-picky.
