FULHAM FOILED IN GREENING BID

Jonathan Greening

Tuesday July 14,2009

West Brom have rejected what chairman Jeremy Peace describes as a "derisory" offer from Fulham for captain Jonathan Greening.

The midfielder, 30, who still has a year remaining on his deal at The Hawthorns, has been at the centre of much speculation over his future in recent weeks, and with the club in no mood to sell, Peace insists the offer received from Roy Hodgson was rejected swiftly.

He said: "Contrary to reports, this is the only offer we've received from Fulham. Jonathan is our captain and a vital member of the squad. Therefore, we didn't give Fulham's offer a second thought. It is derisory for a player of Jonathan's talent and experience."

The Baggies chief added: "We made it abundantly clear at the end of last season that, should any players leave, it will be on our terms.

"We want to keep all of our best players as we strive to gain promotion back to the Premier League.

"We are under no financial pressure to sell anyone."

Recent reports suggest a cash plus player, supposedly Hameur Bouazza, deal has been put on the table by the Cottagers.
