IS POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IN SCHOOLS GOING MAD?

Hugging will be banned

Friday June 29,2007

A TOP headteacher has banned his pupils from hugging – claiming it encourages sexual behaviour.

Any pupil found hugging or cuddling one of the same or opposite sex will be punished with detention.

The head is Sir Michael Wilshaw, who was knighted in 2000 for services to education. He has vetoed all forms of “inappropriate” touching at the 900-pupil Mossbourne Academy in Hackney, East London.

But his new rule has been blasted by teaching unions and child experts.

Dr Michelle Elliott, a psychologist and founder of child protection charity Kidscape, branded it madness.

She said: “The next thing is to dress kids in head-to-toe sackcloth so they can’t have any contact whatsoever. It’s a sad world when you have to ban children from such a normal thing as hugging. I hug a lot of people and I don’t have sex with them.”

What do YOU think? Is this political correctness madness?

OUT OF HIS MIND.

This headmaster must walk around with his head in the clouds. If he came down to earth then he would see that hugging is something that, teenage girls especially, do a lot. It is ridiculous to ban hugging. We should be encouraging our children to more expressive in a good way, than all the violence that goes on. If I was a parent in his school and he put my child on detention for hugging someone, I would have to have words with him and I would protest against it. Will he be having seperate classes anytime soon. Maybe a class per child so they don't ge ttoo close.?

this is an infringement on our culture, that head teacher should be suspended now as he clearly has a distorted mind.

COME ON, COMRADE, GIVE US A BIG HUG!

29.06.07, 6:24pm

Of course, students are under the pervasive and invasive watch of appointed, politically-correct comrades. I am not one whom bends readily to conspiracy theories; nevertheless, pervasiveness and invasiveness is part of these leftist comrades’ manifesto.
It is part and parcel of their “collective” mindset or, if you like, ideology. This malevolent practice has put a chokehold on the rights of the individual’s expressions and actions; however, not solely upon students but our entire society.
Oh come on, comrade ol’ boy, or whatever, give us a big hug!

YET MORE PATHETIC RULES

29.06.07, 2:04pm

Can any of us say we're surprised at this after all even something good for our children such as the applying of sun cream or a plaster needs express permission.
It seems that the only activity children are allowed is to sit still & not move (a great way to encourage obesity).
I'm thankful my childs' pre-school will hug him if that is what he needs or put a plaster on him when he falls. Children need the contact & reassurance this gives I'd rather my son felt secure & liked than lived in his own little space untouched by people he likes including his friends
