In all, five young gang members were jailed for a total of 119 years between them after the teenage victim was murdered in broad daylight as he went for a hair cut in a shoot-out likened to the days of Al Capone in Chicago.

Nigel Ramsey, 23, nicknamed “The General”, used his mobile to arrange the killing of 17-year-old Tarek Chaiboub.

Tarek, known as “GT”, short for Global Threat, was shot in the back from two feet away by one of three hoodies with a sawn-off pump-action shotgun. Tarek was himself wielding a small pistol.

Jailing the men, Mr Justice Griffith Williams said the gangsters were “indifferent to those who want to live in a civilised society”.

Prosecutor Paul Watson QC told Sheffield Crown Court: “This was not Chicago in the 1930s. Still less was it the East End of London in the 1960s. This happened less than a year ago.” The shooting was a revenge attack for the near-fatal stabbing of Ramsey’s cousin. The three hooded men were Michael “Mikey B” Chattoo, 21, Nigel Ramsey’s brother Denzil Ramsey, 20, and 17-year-old Levan Menzies.

All denied murdering Tarek. But the jury found all of them guilty.

The four were jailed for life. Nigel Ramsey will serve a minimum term of 35 years. Chattoo got 30 years. Denzil Ramsey was jailed for 25 years’ minimum and Menzies will serve 20.

Javan “Javster” Galloway, 20, involved earlier in a stabbing attack on Tarek, was given nine years.
