A mix of cost-cutting and investment has improved the financial performance

Tuesday September 1,2009

By Brendan Abbott

A MIX of cost-cutting and investment at Media Corporation has improved the financial performance of the AIM-listed advertising and internet publishing company.

Media Corp’s biggest business is advertising network Eyeconomy, which runs campaigns for leading brands including Vodafone, British Gas and UPS.

In a trading update it said it had seen a significant improvement in the third quarter of its 2009 financial year, with revenues up 18 per cent against the second quarter to £785,000. It said it had seen a strong start to the fourth quarter, with record sales and advertising revenues in July.

Media Corp said its publishing business was showing the benefits of investment in the redesign and development of its websites, including gambling.com, offering players games including blackjack, poker, roulette and sports betting. It hopes to benefit from changes to US anti-online gaming laws. Chief executive Justin Drummond said: “Following a challenging period, I am pleased to report that we are now seeing the financial benefit of the strategic decisions made earlier in the year. We have streamlined our operating costs and refocused the business on its most profitable areas.

“This strategy has seen financial performance improve significantly during the financial year.”
