Fabio's fliers

FABIO CAPELLO again showed the Midas touch as his England side booked their place in the World Cup finals by thrashing Croatia last night.

ENGLAND S HEROES Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard ENGLAND'S HEROES: Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard

Aaron Lennon was brought in for Shaun Wright-Phillips and produced an inspired display in England’s stunning 5-1 rout.

The result meant England secured top spot in Group Six, having won all eight of their games, and avenged the 3-2 Wembley defeat at the hands of Croatia that stopped them qualifying for Euro 2008.

Lennon won the penalty from which Frank Lampard opened the scoring, then crossed for Steven Gerrard to head the second goal. Lampard nodded in Glen Johnson’s cross for his second and England’s third after more good work from Lennon, before Gerrard and Wayne Rooney completed the rout.
