DAY CASE BREAST SURGERY SOARS BY 235 PER CENT

BREAST enlargement performed as day case operations have soared in the past 15 years, seeing a whopping 235 per cent increase.

Cosmetic surgeons at The Firm, founders of Mybreast, say that 15 years ago it was extremely rare for any surgery to be performed as a day case.

However, as surgical technology and anaesthetics have advanced, faster recovery times have followed.

"Improved surgical techniques and more sophisticated anaesthesia have made it possible to speed recovery time," says Nilesh Sojitra, cosmetic surgeon for The Firm, founders of Mybreast.

Sojitra performs many of his breast enlargement operations as day cases and says: "Patients prefer to rest at home, instead of being in a medical institution and with the correct patient care it’s safe for an earlier release."

Seven years ago, approximately one in 50 breast augmentation operations across the UK were performed as day case.

Now, about one in every 15 patients who undergo the procedure is able to leave the hospital the same day, instead of overnight.
