SUPERMARKET giant Sainsbury’s has chosen retail veteran David Tyler to replace its outgoing chairman Sir Philip Hampton.

Tyler, an accountant, was finance director for nine years at UK blue-chip conglomerate GUS. He is currently chairman of technology group Logica and is on the board of consumer products group Reckitt Benckiser. He will join the board on October 1 and take on the chairman’s role from November.

Hampton is stepping down after being made chairman of part-nationalised Royal Bank of Scotland.
