Forty-nine youngsters aged four and below were admitted to Scottish hospitals with the H1N1 strain, the highest number for any age group.

Children are thought to be more susceptible to swine flu than older people, who have built a resistance.

An adult has died of the H1N1 virus in the NHS Ayrshire and Arran area, it emerged last night. The victim, Scotland’s 29th, had underlying health issues.
