THE LISBON TREATY AND WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU

How the Lisbon Treaty will effect the UK

Wednesday November 4,2009

By Daily Express Reporter

The Treaty slashes our ability to veto EU legislation that damages the UK’s business and way of life. Our veto is axed in 40 areas — from energy to public health and industry.

Britain will have no defence against new laws that could cost taxpayers billions of pounds.

Unelected judges in Luxembourg are given powers over our justice and asylum system. Asylum claimers can take their cases to the European Court of Justice for the first time. The EU is also given power to set immigration policies for all 27 members and to rule on criminal policy.

More unaccountable institutions will be created in Brussels, including an unelected EU President. The role is likely to go to a failed politician like Tony Blair. Lisbon also hands new powers on the budget to the laughable European “parliament”.

BRITAIN: THE END

Brussels will get the right to set its own taxes. The Treaty permits the EU to impose its own taxes directly for the first time, on top of national taxes, in order to raise its “own resources” for the EU itself.

Brussels will take powers for itself in the future without having to ask permission from our parliament. The Treaty is “self-amending”, which means the EU can decide it wants more powers and take them without referring to national parliaments. No more referendums or discussions will be necessary.

I AM HAPPY TO WAIT & SEE.

05.11.09, 12:05pm

So JonO, it’s all been a conspiracy for decades involving just about everyone and it’s the USA and the CIA behind it all !

I suppose that all the benefits, business, trade, employment and cash we’ve had is all fake and part of the conspiracy too?

Well that says it all. I am happy to let the British public decide if they want to leave the EU. Europe will certainly not starve – what rot. There must be many in “mainland” Europe that will welcome the end of whinging Britain.

After leaving the EU, many more British people will leave Britain. What a lovely place you will have left to live in. If you think things can go back to “the good old days”, sanctions from the rest of the world against your dictatorship regime will help the further decline of Great (not) Britain.

UNDERSTAND THIS DA.

05.11.09, 12:30am

<<Understand this, Britain will never again “rule the waves”, but that shouldn’t stop us playing a major part in a new European Union. Some of you seem determined that we will become a “poor cousin” or worse still step out into the cold and become a ghost island.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UNDERSTAND THIS DA. The British people are FUNDING the Euroland project with borrowed money in their own name. £54.6 Billion per year.
Understand that ANY country that looses the right to levy its OWN taxes is a slave of the taxer.
a Ghost Island ? How can we be a ghost island when we are the stupid people who are paying for eveything... infact look at our Ghost fishing industry, killed by euroland, look at our banks that are being forced into a sell off to comply with EU law. Look at our Post Office /Royal Mail, being sold off (given away ) to comply with european anti competion laws about governments not owning companies..
It is the Americans, who pretend to have a "special relationship" with the British who FUNDED the Britain in Europe Campaign much loved by Hestletine and Clarke in order that America- infact the CIA could get to hear what the Europeans were up to.
There are parties accross euroland being set up to oppose the european soviet. in Poland, France , Did you know that in the European Parliament that No MEP can suggest any legislation at all - that most votes are on a show of hands and no record of voting is kept ?
Did you know that anti E U political parties are going to be banned ?
The European parliament is very pleased with itself that it has stolen the countries of europe away from their own parliaments without a shot being fired... When the people wake up- and David Cameron has really let the cat out of the bag on this with his lies, which follow that other treasonous Tory, Edward Heath, Then I think that the EU have spoken too soon.. There will be trouble, starting first at the ballot box next spring.
When Great Britain leave -Europe will starve to death.Brussels will be a ghost town.
EU?
04.11.09, 7:43pm
So your saying let them give away our right to vote for governing bodies.
Let them take away the right to let our own government say what stays n whats goes.
Justice, immigration, industry, healthcare to name a few.
So it doesn't matter that the government broke a pormise to the people by not holding a referrendum if we go ahead with the EU farse.
You must live with rose coloured glasses on.
Coz this country will soon be over run with both legal and illegal immigrants and bcome EU's toilet. Hey tell you what why don't we just sell our homes while we're at it.
Get real and face the music. THE PEOPLE DON'T WANT THE EU !!!
NOT A CHANCE
04.11.09, 7:26pm
I still refuse to join the EU, yes we can take a page from their book, but I refuse to play by the entire book. I very much like the British book with few adjustments. Say like go back to when police actually could do their jobs and schools had discipline and same goes for parenting.
A STRONGER EU IS THE WAY TO GO.
04.11.09, 7:24pm
KarlH
How will the Lisbon Treaty cost the British taxpayers billions of pounds? If we have no choice, then neither do the other members of the EU.
Are you saying we will be forced to have the same tax and VAT as the rest of the EU for things like fuel, alcohol and tobacco for instance?
Have we all really been lied to about the EU money given to many parts of Britain to fund all sorts of projects, building programs, employment, etc?
Jonocynic9
Of course we didn’t vote for Gordon Brown – so what’s your point? If we voted for a Conservative Government next year and then David Cameron decided to quit, WE WOULD NOT VOTE FOR HIS REPLACEMENT!
The Government ”sign” and decide lots of things on our behalf. The last general election gave them that authority. We can’t have a referendum every time a decision has to be made that you and your mates don’t like!
Mars85
Most of us can imagine the type of people you spoke to if they want to, “pull out the EU and bring back the good old days”. What exactly was good about those days before the EU?
My mother used to talk about “the good old days”, but even she didn’t take too much convincing that in “the good old days” life was a struggle and there were more poor people with very little in the way of income and comfort. Why would anyone want to go back to that? Pulling out of the EU would be horrendous for the country and would adversely affect British industry and its exports, costing us jobs and financial ruin for every section of the economy.
Understand this, Britain will never again “rule the waves”, but that shouldn’t stop us playing a major part in a new European Union. Some of you seem determined that we will become a “poor cousin” or worse still step out into the cold and become a ghost island.
