ASHLEY'S NAME IS STILL MUD

ACE: Gutierrez

Sunday November 8,2009

By Clive Hetherington

NAME-calling comes with the territory on Tyneside.

And in the first game since Mike Ashley announced the re-branding of the proud fortress as Sportsdirect.com@St James’ Park, the owner got an earful from the Toon Army in full voice.

His saving grace may be on the pitch as the Magpies stay top of the league. Argentinian winger Jonas Gutierrez opened the scoring after a mazy run before limping off.

Andy Carroll’s classy header made it two and right-back Danny Simpson added a third. Well-beaten Posh scored a consolation through Dean Keates.

Newcastle boss Chris Hughton said the fans’ protests were not a distraction. He said:

“It hasn’t taken anything away from the victory. We have a totally focused group of players who saw an opportunity to stay top of the division and that’s what they did.”
