MISSED OUT: But Bily Davies will make sure there is not a repeat of last summer

Monday November 9,2009

BILLY DAVIES is plotting a lavish January spending spree to ensure Nottingham Forest remain among the promotion pack.

But he has asked chairman Nigel Doughty for a clear budget so he knows which players he can attempt to sign.

Not a single one of Davies’s eight targets was signed in last season’s January window. He also missed out last summer.

And with as many as five players in mind for January, he does not want a repeat.

“There is no budget here, I am told,” he said. “But, having lost out on players in the past, I have made the point that there could be. We could eliminate wasted time by knowing what the budget is.”

Davies saw his side take an 86th-minute lead when defender Wes Morgan lashed home from close range, only for Danny Haynes to fire into the bottom corner four minutes later.

City were lucky to finish with 11 players as Nicky Maynard flew in with a challenge on Chris Gunter after only eight seconds.

Gunter was involved in a controversy when the sides met last season, but City boss Gary Johnson said: “We came here to avenge a defeat, not to gain revenge for anything else.”
