NO CHARGES OVER CASH FOR HONOURS
Lord Levy
By Polly Buchanan for express.co.uk
THE cash for honours debacle which threatened to blight Tony Blair's legacy is expected to end today, with nobody facing criminal charges.
In what will be seen as a huge blow to Scotland Yard, the long-running investigation, which has been funded entirely by the taxpayer, is set to draw to a close with no charges brought against Tony Blair's inner circle.
Angus MacNeil, the MP whose complaint sparked the investigation, said: “I think it’s quite extraordinary if this is the case. That the news has come out in this way, leaked by the CPS.”
He continued: “It seems strange to me that the CPS has sustained this investigation and encouraged the police to carry on, then to say it has been a wild goose chase.
“Regardless of that, I think it has changed the political climate in the UK.”
The investigation into the cash for honours scandal centered around Tony Blair's close personal friend Lord Levy, and saw the former Prime Minister being called in for questioning as a witness.
"WHILE SUCH GROSS HYPOCRISY AND INJUSTICES EXIST
20.07.07, 8:40am
Politics has completely stuffed this country.
Earlier this week four blokes received 6 years for, amongst other charges, incitement to murder in demonstrations and street protests.. Our former prime minster, in 2003 conspired, to go to war, with George Bush and in doing so commit grand murder of countless innocent Iraqi people.
But unlike the 4, our departing prime minister went on to receive a standing ovation in parliament and a £400K a year job...
While such gross hypocrisy and injustices exist, no one should really be surprised by this "no charges" conclusion to this cash for honors case.......
