THE JAMES BOND OMNIBUS VOL 1: SPY 007 RETURNS IN COMIC STRIP FORM

TOP COLLECTION: A must-have for James Bond fans

By Emily Garnham for express.co.uk

JAMES BOND, the spy with a licence to kill, has returned in comic strip form.

Eleven of 007's most thrilling missions, including Casino Royal, Goldfinger and Live and Let Die have been published as a collection of short graphic novels.

The detailed black and white drawings by John McLusky were first published in the Daily Express between 1953 and 1961 before the movies propelled James Bond into the Hollywood stratosphere.

Fans of Ian Fleming's original prose may have trouble navigating this format, which inevitably strips Bond's character and the famous storylines down to his martini-shaken-not-stirred essentials to suit the genre.

But where words are lacking, McLusky's meticulous and truly exciting art brings Bond's missions - which also include Moonraker, Diamonds are Forever, From Russia With Love, Dr. No,  Risico, From a View to a Kill, For Your Eyes Only and Thunderball - to life.

The introduction by Sir Roger Moore makes this flexi-bound paperback collection worthy for any fan of the movies or original books.

VERDICT 5/5
