THE LOVELY BONES PREMIERE: SUSAN SARANDON SHINES

Wednesday November 25 2009 byElisa Roche

FILM star Susan Sarandon showed she could still wow the crowds even after decades in the limelight.

The glamorous 63-year-old looked stunning when she stepped out for the Royal Film Premiere of The Lovely Bones in London’s Leicester Square, last night.

Susan Sarandon, who plays a grandmother in the Oscar-tipped film, stunned rain-soaked onlookers in a flowing black dress under a long-knitted coat.

But despite keeping a brave face, she was heard to mutter she was “not really enjoying the weather”.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall also attended the screening of the film, based on the acclaimed best-selling novel by Alice Sebold. The movie also stars previous Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz.

The film, directed by Peter Jackson, centres on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family – and her killer – from heaven.

She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.

Jackson said of the movie: “We all wonder what it’s like after we die, is there some life after death existence? It is I think one of those questions everybody thinks about from time to time ... it’s a challenging movie but I wanted to make it really positive.”

The Royal Film Performance is the major fundraising event of the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund and money will help film and TV employees and their families in hardship.
