Tottenham's Peter Crouch says "Spurs are flying"

Friday November 27,2009

By Frank Wiechula

TOTTENHAM could not have been more emphatic in stating their burning intent to reach the Champions League than their 9-1 demolition of Wigan on Sunday.

And Peter Crouch who set Spurs on their way to that mauling, believes a debut in the competition is now there for the taking.

Tottenham are in fourth spot and travel to fifth-placed Aston Villa tomorrow and could end the day six points in front of Martin O’Neill’s side.

Crouch said: “We have made a bit of a statement with the result over Wigan . People will look at that result on Sunday and say, ‘Oh my God Spurs are flying’. People are going to sit up and take notice.

“We all believe there is enough ability to get in there – but we don’t want to talk too much, we want to do that talking on the pitch.

“We can score from loads of positions and we are sound defensively as well. We have goalscorers. We have players who can open up defences and we have players out who can do the creative stuff, like Luka Modric.

“If you can’t take confidence from that, then I don’t know what you can take it from. ”

Spurs have rattled in the goals this season, their Premier League tally of 32 bettered only by leaders Chelsea, 33, and third-placed Arsenal with 36.

But Crouch said: “We must remember it’s only one game but, if we play like that again, things will be great. We will keep doing what we have been doing.

“All around the park, Niko Kranjcar was fantastic, Aaron Lennon, Tom Huddlestone – all pulling the strings.”
