FIGURE-conscious women who ask “does my bum look big in this?” should be pleased if the answer is yes, say experts.

A team of scientists has discovered that the owners of generously built derrieres are less likely to develop heart disease and diabetes.

They discovered that fat around the backside and thighs reduces the effect of harmful proteins called cytokines which cause inflammation and illness.

It means well-rounded stars like Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce are healthier than wafer-thin supermodels. Scientist Dr Konstantinos Manolopoulos, of Oxford University, says the latest study could help to find new ways to keep body fat low and reduce heart and cholesterol problems.

In an article published in the International Journal of Obesity, he writes: “The fat around our thighs and hips is different to the fat around tummies. The cells in lower body fat work differently from the cells in upper body fat, so celebrities like J-Lo can be said to be better role models for women’s health than supermodels with much less lower body fat.”
