MAVERICKS captain Louisa Brownfield helped her team to a 26-goal win over Loughborough Lightning on Saturday, with a near perfect shooting display.

England star Louisa Brownfield missed just one goal out of 38 attempts as Mavericks stormed to a 61-35 win.

Irked by their defeat at the hands of Surrey Storm on Monday, Mavericks moved ahead in the second and third quarters with coach Maggie Jackson calling on her most experienced players.

Defensively the side was rock solid with Nadia Hutchinson and Amanda Newton controlling the goal circle. Lightning striker Jo Harten coped admirably and made the most of the few attempts at goal she was granted.

At the other end of the court, young Maverick Ella Clark was paired with Brownfield and performed with an 80 per cent success rate.

Coach Jackson said "I am pleased that Hertfordshire Mavericks have returned to excellent shooting performances for us. Ella and particularly Louisa were outstanding."

She added: "Loughborough Lightning really competed with us and made us have to work for the result. It was also good that I was able to use the combinations I planned for and worked towards."

Loughborough coach Olivia Murphy admitted Mavericks wealth of experience proved decisive in the match, adding: "We have plenty to learn from today's performance. Again we turned over lots of ball from two top quality shooters but failed to capitalise on them."

Lightning's Olivia Murphy praised her side's captain, saying: "Jo Harten once again led the Lightning attack line with clinical finishing, but we didn't give her enough of the ball."
