TEAM BATH BEAT LEEDS CARNEGIE IN WEEKEND THRILLER

Leeds Carnegie were neck-and-neck with Team Bath for the first three quarters

REIGNING Superleague champions Team Bath beat Leeds Carnegie in a tight clash that was only decided in the final 15 minutes.

Just three goals separated Team Bath and Leeds Carnegie at the end of the third quarter, having been neck-and-neck throughout.

Bath had travelled to Leeds Met University fresh from defeat by Surrey Storm - their first loss in nearly 23 months - while Leeds were pushing for a win after some excellent but unrewarded performances in recent games.

A sensational final quarter saw a change of gear for Team Bath - who had been given a thorough work out by Leeds - as they put together some immaculate and inspirational passages of play to storm to a 20-goal win at the final whistle.

Bath coach Jess Garland said: “Leeds really tested us and kept with us for the first three quarters of the game. We’re really pleased with some of the things we made improvements on.”

“We are looking to have a more clinical performance against Glasgow on Friday night.”

Leeds coach Marion Lofthouse added: “What a fantastic game of netball! Both teams exhibited great skill and commitment. Bath dominated the last quarter showing the experience required to win the game. The Leeds players will learn from this match.”

Lofthouse also praised the match officials, saying: “Both umpires allowed the players to contest the ball and this contributed to a great display of netball.”
