Nigerian kills the baby he fathered to stay in Britain
AN ILLEGAL immigrant who murdered his six-week-old daughter was yesterday jailed for life with a minimum of 16 years behind bars.
Nigerian Olusola Akinrele, 34, fathered the girl just to avoid deportation, a court heard.
He subjected baby Leeya to a catalogue of violent abuse, including biting her fingers in half and battering her skull when she would not stop crying.
The Old Bailey was told the girl was left in agony from 22 broken ribs, a broken leg, fractures to her knees and appalling bite injuries to her nose and hands.
She then received one catastrophic blow to the head and died 12 days later when hospital doctors switched off her life-support machine.
Paramedics had found her “lifeless” at her parents’ rented home in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire, after her mother, Kelly Inman, dialed 999.
The court was told that routine checks by midwives and a health visitor in the weeks following her birth in November 2006 failed to prompt concerns.
Inman, 21, admitted allowing the death of a child and was jailed for five years at Ipswich Crown Court last year.
Akinrele will be automatically deported on release.
