DOCTORS GIVE IN TO MUSLIMS

Doctors can no longer eat at their desks

Monday August 13,2007

By Tom Fullerton

DOCTORS and health workers have been banned from eating lunch at their desks - in case it offends their Muslim colleagues.

Health chiefs believe the sight of food will upset Muslim workers when they are celebrating the religious festival Ramadan.

The lunch trolley is also to be wheeled out of bounds as the 30-day fast begins next month.

But staff and politicians branded the move political correctness gone mad and warned that it was a step too far.

Bill Aitken, the Scottish Conservative justice spokesman, said: “This advice, well-meaning as it may be, is total nonsense.

“It is the sort of thing that can stir up resentment rather than result in good relations.”

The new guidance comes in the wake of the failed terror attacks on Glasgow and the death of suspect Kafeel Ahmed, 27.

Health chiefs in Lothian and Glasgow will give all employees time off to pray and to celebrate Eid, which marks the end of Ramadan.

But Greater Glasgow and Clyde as well as Lothian NHS boards also issued the advice, warning workers not to take working lunches, and said all vending machines should be removed from areas where Muslims work.

One senior consultant said: “What next? Are we going to have advice on how to deal with Catholics during Lent?
“This kind of thing does more harm than good.”

The guidance, which was sent round many organisations, was produced by Glasgow consultancy Meem, which advises on Muslim issues and counts the Scottish Parliament among its clients.

Na’eem Raza, a senior consultant with the firm, said he was thrilled that the health boards had formally adopted the guidance.

He added: “The idea is to get faith in the workplace out in the open.

“In the current climate, people need to understand where communities are coming from and what people are feeling.

“After the Glasgow attack this is very important. This is about educating people and making them more aware and more confident when dealing with issues surrounding the Muslim community.

“People have stopped talking over the garden fence and we need to break down the barriers so that people can talk comfortably to each other.

“It would never stir up resentment. Faith is an important issue. Why not have guidance on all of the issues that affect us, including different faiths?”

Health chiefs defended their use of the guidance and said it was important to promote a positive and tolerant culture at work.

A NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde spokesman said: “As a large organisation we recognise that many of our staff, patients and visitors will be participating in Ramadan.

“We have therefore made information available to our staff to raise awareness of Ramadan and help to answer any questions they may have.”

NHS Lothian said: “We have recently agreed a quality and diversity strategy and as a responsible and pro-active employer we will continue to promote a positive culture which recognises and respects diversity both in our workforce and in the people we serve.”

RAMADAN

25.01.09, 9:05am

I was born a muslim, I am no longer. My mum was a devout muslim, she would fast in Ramadan but still cook lunch for any one who was not fasting!! I find this banning of food in the NHS offices nothing but another sign of Muslim Radicals trying to run this country. This country is a FREE country and you should be allowed to do whatever you wish within the law. This will only lead to more anti Islam and raceism. I thought they would get more "Brownie Points" if they kept their fast whilst others were eating. Ramadan is a month to feel with the poor people. I lived in the Arabian Gulf for many years, if I dared eat in Ramadan during day light I would have ended up in Jail. DO NOT allow this to happen

ISLAMIC FASTING - IS IT REALLY A FASTING?

29.08.08, 2:23am

Ramadan is supposedly a period of fasting. The whole purpose of fasting is to concentrate on the sublime, in spite of temptations. In fact, temptations have to be present, so the individual can say NO, not just publicly but in his mind. Fasting is thus mainly about individual spiritual strength.

From the article ones notes that food trolleys are to avoid Muslim areas so that Muslims are not tempted by food. But such a policy totally defeats the purpose of fasting. It seems thus, that Islamic fasting is more a public display of religiosity - Jesus warned us of this in his condemnation of the Pharisees. More then that, Islamic fasting is a method to impose Islamic customs by stealth, and under the guise of cultural sensitivity.

WHY ARE WE SURPRISED?

29.08.08, 1:59am

Why are we surprised that this has happened? Muslims are commanded by the Koran to take over Kaffir nations by all means, and to impose Islam and shari'a. If we didn’t know this, then the fault lies with us, and not with Muslims, as they have made their intentions quite clear and open from the very beginning - some 1400 years ago.

These present steps by Muslims are small, but soon their will be calls for shari’a this or shari’a that. If they are not met, then Jihad can be legitimately invoked - its Islamic law.

Britain- the most important nation in the creation of Western civilisation is in great danger- a danger that is without parallel. In 50 years or less, Muslims will be a majority, and shari’a will be implemented legally, via parliament. If it is opposed, then a civil war and Balkanisation will result. Such has been the case whenever Muslims have been allowed to gain a foothold in a Kaffir nation.

I hope and pray for all, Muslims and non-Muslims, that we can avoid this dire situation. Much better for cultures as dissimilar as Western and Islamic ones, that they live apart, then the inevitable violent conflict.

DCCTORS GIVE IN TO MUSLIMS.

17.03.08, 2:58pm

I am an Atheist. I am my own person, do not believe there is a higher being, just an excuse to control people. Can I tell the excessively rich they are sinners because the Church has now made it a sin.
I have never stood up when 'the Queen' has been played, I am as good as her and my ancestors were better people.
Respect all people and their beliefs yes, but not empose this on everyone. I believe this will cause more prejudcie one thing we have enough of.

RAMADAN

02.02.08, 5:33am

I am not a Muslim why should I not eat my lunch in the office at my desk, are we going to tell the the fast food stores they can only open after 5pm so as not to upset these people are we going to force all stores to close untill after prayers on a friday so as not to uset the poor sensitive Muslims.
I also work in the Gulf and yes during Ramadan we are not allowed to smoke, drink water or eat any food out doors during the day.
If you break the law you face jail time, but we must remember that we are guest living in Muslim country.
But I live in a Christian country, our political masters would do well to remember that
