General Election 2010 Wife Watch: Sarah Brown and Sam Cam's fashion-off gets underway

THEIR husbands may be hitting the general election 2010 campaign trail in earnest but Sarah Brown and Samantha Cameron will be fighting their very own sartorial battle.

Gordon Brown and David Cameron’s other halves will be standing firmly by their men in the countdown to the general election next month – hoping to sway votes through their fashion choices.

And with only the first full day of campaigning kicking off today, it's already clear that both leading ladies - have adopted a very distinct style for the climax of the political calendar.

Pregnant Samantha Cameron has opted for a very familiar classic look, sporting simple cuts, basic colours (white, black and brown) and minimal accessories.

Sarah Brown, on the other hand, works in splashes of colours (lime green and lilac to compliment her auburn hair) and hasn't shied away from patterned fabrics.

Yesterday the prime minister's wife wore stripes, today polka dots, and each outfit has been teamed with a matching beaded necklace.

OK.co.uk's fashion expert said: "Samantha Cameron has natural style and always looks effortlessly chic. She's clearly decided to be herself fashion-wise in this election campaign.

"Sarah Brown looks a bit behind the times with her look as she clings to the age-old adage you should match everything."
