Willetts the milky bar kid

CONSERVATIVE politicians would do well to steer clear of the lactic issue. It always turns sour for them.

Back in 1971 the cry of “Thatcher, Thatcher, milk snatcher” was often heard when she, then Education Secretary, stopped milk for primary school children aged seven to 11.

Over the weekend the Government floated the idea of scrapping milk for the under fives. Downing Street then abandoned the idea to the embarrassment of Minister David Willetts, who heard about the U-turn on live TV. He semi-skimmed over his discomfiture muttering about having to look at a “whole range of options”.

Come on Cameron and co. Get your story straight before Labour milks the issue for all its worth.
