BLACKPOOL were thrown into chaos last night when chairman Karl Oyston stood down after just one Premier League match.

Oyston, who has been at the helm for the last 11 years, made the announcement as manager Ian Holloway prepared his side for Saturday’s game at Arsenal.

The news comes just hours after the club announced their seventh signing of the summer transfer window in Israeli defender Dekel Keinan. No reason was given for the decision but Oyston, 43, has recently spoken of his frustration at dealing with agents over bringing players to Bloomfield Road.

Holloway suffered a series of knockbacks as he looked to strengthen his side for Blackpool’s first season back in the top-tier since 1971.

Four days before last Saturday’s stunning 4-0 victory at Wigan, the Lancashire club had still to sign a player since winning promotion.

“I expected the landscape to be a lot different and the way that people behaved to be a lot different,” said Oyston recently. “I’ve been very disappointed in the way that some agents have conducted themselves.

“It’s a shame the way agents get in the way of football sometimes. They stymie their players’ careers rather than enhance them and that needs to be resolved.

“I’m not sure that I’ve got the right approach for this division and the more I talk to people at other clubs, the more I realise that I’m a lone voice. Everyone else seems to subscribe to the way that business is conducted and things that I find unacceptable.”

Latvian tycoon Valery Belokon, Blackpool’s president, will lead the hunt for a new chairman, although Oyston will remain at the club as acting chief executive until the end of the season.

“The club would like to emphasise that there will be no interruption in the recruitment of players or the work required on the stadium,” said a Blackpool statement.
