Dutch coach Ronald Koeman, who has managed Valencia, Benfica and PSV, has been out of work since being sacked by AZ Alkmaar last December.

And he today confirmed his interest in taking up the hot seat at Villa Park.

He said: "I'm interested in the position of manager from Villa. I know that I'm on their list."

Aston Villa have been looking for a manager since Martin O'Neill walked out last week - with USA boss Bob Bradley and Diego Maradona being linked to the job.

There have been reports that caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald is favourite for the post but it is thought that owner Randy Lerner wants an experienced coach to take over.
