UK NEWSHERO FREES CRASH GIRL – AND IS ARRESTEDWednesday September 26,2007 HERO driver Graeme Deacon did not think twice when he saw a woman in a blazing car after a motorway pile-up –he ran across three lanes of traffic and pulled her to safety. But soon after police arrived, he says he was threatened with CS gas, grappled to the ground, handcuffed and put in a cell. The father-of-three is so angry at his treatment by traffic officers that he has lodged an official complaint with Greater Manchester Police. And yesterday Graeme, 38, said: “If this is the way they treat someone for saving others, I would hate to see what happens to real criminals.” The drama began when he saw a car smash into the central barrier on the busy M67 near Hyde in Greater Manchester. He pulled on to the hard shoulder and went to lead the shocked driver to safety. But then he saw another car plough into the wreckage and burst into flames. He ran back again, wrenched a door open and freed the young woman inside. Wearing a fluorescent jacket, he directed traffic away from the accident and cleared a path for ambulances and police services, whom he had already called. Things turned nasty when he tried to leave the scene, having given police a statement and his details, because he was worried he was late for work. Mr Deacon, of Glossop, Derbyshire, said: “I was told to stop or else I would be arrested for the equivalent of jaywalking. The carriageway was empty. I could have crawled across on my hands and knees. There was absolutely no risk. “The police officer said, ‘You'll wait as long as it takes, whether it’s five minutes or two hours’. “I went to walk off and three officers grabbed me, pushed me down to the floor, hit the back of my legs with a baton, rammed my face into the gravel and handcuffed me. “One of the officers then said, ‘Shut up or I’ll spray you with CS gas’. I had managed to lead two people to safety, diverted traffic and averted a catastrophe. I couldn’t believe it.” He was then arrested for obstructing police and taken to a cell at Ashton police station. On release, he claims the station duty inspector told him: “You should be given a commendation for outstanding bravery. “The way you’ve been treated is appalling and disgusting and I’m ashamed to have that police officer on the force at GMP.” An eye-witness, who saw Mr Deacon being put in the police van, said: “All it would have taken would have been for the police to calm him down and then take him back to his car safely.” Superintendent Alan Greene, from GMP’s Traffic Network Section, praised Mr Deacon for doing “an excellent job at the incident”. But he added: “Officers offered to get Mr Deacon back to his car safely, but asked him to wait until they had brought the traffic under control. He insisted on trying to return to his car by crossing three lanes, with vehicles travelling at high speed.” “In order to prevent him from causing a danger to himself and others, officers had to restrain Mr Deacon.”

I seem to remember back in the 80's a senior member of the police saying that the "police force could not function under a labour government" Labour have remembered this.
that is why the police has been infultrated with fast tracked morons who will tow the line.the bulk of them are both lazy and incompetant, but that dosent matter as long as they inforce the multiculti utopia.Things will only get alot worse.

It's easier to arrest decent people like Graeme than to do so to real criminals, who might fight back.

What a shame another nice guy tries to help and gets abused for his trouble.
And the police want help from the public ?
What do they expect ,what they deserve, NOTHING. They put out appeals for help for this that and the other. Are they are really surprised
that nobody comes forward.
The public trust has gone. and it incidents like this that push it even further away.
