PM’S ATTACK ON DRUG STARS

ROLE MODEL: Jazz singer Amy Winehouse

Sunday September 30,2007

GORDON Brown last night warned celebrity drug users they are not “above the law”, as he called for a campaign to take the glamour out of drugs.

In an apparent sideswipe at celebrities like Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse, Mr Brown criticised high- profile role models who take a “very casual attitude to drugs”.

Speaking at a children’s conference in London, Mr Brown said he was determined to drive home the message to young people that drug use is “completely unacceptable”. Babyshambles singer Doherty has a string of drugs convictions.

Jazz singer Winehouse has sung of her desire not to go into rehab, but, after being linked to drink and hard drugs, attended one recently.

Mr Brown said: “We’ve got celebrities who take a very casual attitude to drugs, who think that their standing in the community makes them above the law on these matters.”

The Prime Minister hopes to sign up celebrity anti-drugs role models to send out the message: “Winners don’t take drugs.”

LET'S SEE SOME ACTION, THEN!

I'll have some respect for Brown when I see the following celebrities (reported in the media to
be habitual heavy drug abusers) are caught, arrested, charged, prosecuted, convicted, handed heavy fines and serving stiff sentences in jail: Kate Moss, Amy Winehouse, Pete Doherty, Naomi Campbell, and George Michael for starters.
