Album review: June Tabor: Ashore (Topic)
NOW Laura Marling’s beaten the likes of Cheryl Cole and Ellie Goulding to the Best British Female Brit, folk music is very much back on the agenda, which is why folk legend June Tabor’s Ashore is very timely.
A collection of love songs to the seas and Britain’s relationship with them, this is ethereal and thoughtful, melancholy and gorgeous, sometimes all at the same time.
June’s voice is textured and lovely, while she is always intelligent, intense even. It’s high time she got a little more of the recognition she deserves.
