Rory McIlroy’s masters warning
A SHATTERED Rory McIlroy left Augusta with a warning it will take him months to recover from his Masters meltdown.
McIlroy’s Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie, who had a succession of Major heartaches of his own, believes the Ulsterman will suffer repercussions from his final-round collapse.
“I hope he has as many sympathetic voices in his ear as possible,” said Montgomerie, who watched from Sky Sports’ commentary booth. “It’s going to be a very difficult few months - I hope he gets the support he requires for his career to move forward from this. This is a huge learning curve for Rory.

“It took me a few months to get over the 2006 US Open. That was my fault and Rory must feel the same. But he has to take positives out of it. He only lost the lead with eight holes to go, that has to be a positive at 21 years old.”
But Montgomerie warns there are no guarantees McIlroy will win a Major, adding: “You can never say that. We said that Sergio Garcia would win Majors.”
