Monday December 24,2007

A 19-year-old man is appearing in court charged with the attempted murder of a police officer.

Joel Johnson, of Hatcham Park Road, Lewisham, south east London, is appearing at Greenwich Magistrates' Court after an undercover officer was shot in the hand.

Johnson was also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, Scotland Yard said.

Trident officers arrested the man after an incident on Saturday morning in New Cross Road, south east London.

A second man, 20, has been bailed pending further enquiries.
