FATHER SHOT AFTER CONFRONTING GIRLS

Thursday January 24,2008

The father of a new-born baby has been shot after he confronted two teenage girls who were causing a disturbance.

Barry Simpson, 33, chased the teenagers off as he feared they would wake his baby daughter.

Ten minutes later he was shot at point-blank range outside his girlfriend's home in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, the Scottish Sun newspaper reported.

He is now said to be stable in Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride, after having emergency surgery for stomach wounds.

Mr Simpson and his girlfriend, Sharon Bryson, 31, became concerned for seven-week-old baby Emma after a disturbance late on Monday night

After going outside and chasing the girls away, the teenagers threatened Mr Simpson. On hearing a second noise outside the flat 10 minutes later, he again went out.

He was confronted by a man carrying what looked like a knife - but as he turned to flee he was shot.

Mr Simpson's brother Gavin, 39, told the newspaper: "He'd been shot on the left side of the abdomen. I couldn't believe it - my brother wouldn't harm a fly and lives for his family and playing golf."

Strathclyde Police confirmed a 33-year-old man had received gunshot wounds following a disturbance in Blantyre on Monday. Detectives are treating the case as attempted murder.

The suspect is described as white, about 5ft 9in tall, slim with black, long hair and a beard. He was wearing a white tracksuit.

MIKE READ MY EARLIER ARTICLE

25.01.08, 9:03am

In my earlier article I as advocating a return to corporal punishment, hardly a liberal ideology.
btw I am from your neck of the woods, was raised around there and I am a few years older than your stated age. I know exactly what you are talking about. I know the problematic areas you are refering to. I know the type of children and parents you are talking about that is why I amadvocating a return to corporal punishment.
Believe me it will sort them out in no time.
The article you read was a response to previous article I should have made it more clear.
I was simply saying that locking them up really wont get the desired results. The parents have no control or in some cases desire to control. locking them up will hurt parents who feel helpless anyway or turn them into childbeaters, and it still doesnt address the real problem of the unruly child, who once in care may even get worse.

That is why I say Corporal punisment is the answer

TO CONCERNED BRIT,

24.01.08, 10:06pm

I'm sorry if my statement is a bit strong for some tastes, if you have been in a position where you have had to confront a gang of youths, banging on the windows of a pregnant woman with a disabled child and a week of her term to go then, you can spout your liberal crap all you want. You go out and face them down and preach your moral high ground nonsense to them all you want. I did it, I got head butted and although that was not a problem to me, it might have seriously hurt someone else, like a pensioner that is afraid to go out through the state of the streets. Some of the children that were giving me grief were 12, they were, and are out with their parents knowledge most nights. Give a better answer and I might listen.
If you are under 40 then you simply don't have enough life experience to understand how it was and how it is now.
Sorry if it stings but, I'm a licenced doorman with a lot of life under my belt and I see the lack of parental responsibility as the main reason for the wrongs in society. Who do you think are the ones waving the weapons around, the ones who know what you can and can't do, and yet, they have never felt pain because it's not been allowed for them to feel hurt, they only feel pain when they are told no, then they respond like it's some sort of video game, where they have ten lives and keep getting up again. You have no idea.

LOCK UP THE PARENTS ?

24.01.08, 8:03pm

I really dont think that this will help. If you lock up the parents, this isnt going to work.
Firstly you must remember that most of the parents with unruly children, are themselves lacking in respect or discipline and obviously completely unable to control their child. Punishing them for their childs behaviour would probably lead to an extreme reaction from the parent possibly serious injury. We dont want that.
Also putting the child in an institution, breaking up the family is not a good way forward either, and how is a guardian going to handle an unruly child, that you have taken his/her mother/father from.

We need to instill respect just like we used to do, that worked perfectly well for a good few generations.

Regards the parents overreaction to a punishment of a child.
Firstly I would not allow the teacher to mete out punishment, Only one person in the school will be responsible for this, accompanied by two witnesses and video recording. For the eyes of parents and higher authority.
Secondly If necessary Police protection a permanent feature, we are already going down these lines for other purposes to protect our children and teachers.

I dont believe that any right thinking individual can object to this kind of system, given the ever increasing problem. Of course this will also have the desired effect of turning our classrooms from a battleground into a proper place of learning, that is conducive to good and proper schooling were both child and teacher feels safe. Something that is lacking in a great many classrooms today.

FATHER SHOT

24.01.08, 7:34pm

Why are we so shocked by this, is it not the norm in Britain now? If we bring back the cane in school, what do you think will happen?
The cane will be used on some pupil and then, when the teacher goes out to go home, he or she will be shot by some nutty parent that thinks they have the right to let their child be a little Bastard, without anyone having the right to chastise their offspring. We have to remember that the parents of most of the little gits that are blighting our lives never had the cane either, so they also think like their darlings do.
The answer is a simple one, every time the child is out causing trouble, lock up the parents, make it three strikes and out, parents in jail, children in care. Let's see how many parents start to get a grip of where their child is and what they are doing, and not out of sight and out of mind.
