MUSLIMS 'LET DOWN BY RACE LAW'

Thursday January 31,2008

Anti-Muslim prejudice is dealt with less seriously than other forms of discrimination, a university study found.

The research conducted at Bristol University examined 30 years of Government legislation and legal rulings to distinguish the difference between prejudice towards race, ethnicity and religion.

In the study, Dr Nasar Meer, research associate in the Department of Sociology at Bristol, found that Muslims are let down by race legislation because being a Muslim is recognised as a lifestyle choice or a "voluntary identity".

Dr Meer says other religious identities - such as Sikh and Jew - have had race law applied in their favour in a way not extended to Muslim communities.

He said many Muslims view their faith as an "involuntary identity" as they are born into the religion.

He said: "We explored what legislation exists to help protect people with what we call an involuntary identity. People with an involuntary identity shouldn't be disadvantaged by others' views.

"The legislation should offer them support and make sure they're not discriminated against.

"Muslims have been totally missed out of the protection offered by race-relations legislation because it treats Islam as a religion and not a race."

Dr Meer said he has come across various examples of when hatred towards Muslims was dismissed but hatred towards other religions had not been tolerated.

IS THAT SO.....

31.01.08, 7:59pm

well my very unlearned uneducated ill informed friend,
What an absolute load of claptrap, so much verbal diarrhea i have not heard in a long time.

Wars caused by religion, well let me see I cant deny that there have been wars but caused by whom exactly. Sure some of these wars have been in the name of religion but only because they couldnt come up with a better reason.

Perhaps you could name some of these wars and lets examine them in detail.

Let me start you off in fact
The Crusades Yes this is cited as being on of those wars caused by religion. Much maligned was the cause of the Crusader

Firstly the war was started bt the expansionistic caliphate spanning a period of 600 years of continued aggression by the Muslims they got as far as most of France and Spain in the west and as far as Vienna in the East were finally they were stopped.
Enter our Herioc Defenders the Crusaders, who then by sustained pressure where able to push them right back to where they started in the Middle East.

Were it not for this great and heroic effort by the Crusaders we would all have enjoyed several hundred years of Tyranical Caliphate rule.

How is it that the like of you still turn on the very thing - Christianity, the Faith that made the whole of western civilization what it is today

It beggars belief, it really does.

RELIGION HAS HAD ITS DAY TIME TO MOVE ON.

31.01.08, 5:40pm

Through out the annals of time religion has had a massive and often detrimental effect on those that it influences. Religions have all sort to cure the ills of man and lead them to salvation, none has achieved this, and often quite the opposite has been the result. Chrisendom in all of its forms has a history stained with blood, as does Islam, and any other religion you care to mention. Religion is all about control, power and wealth, do not be mislead. The passage of thousands of years of a mutiplicity or religions has not achieved anything other than bloodshed and suffering on a massive scale. From heretics being burned at the stake, to hostages being brutally beheaded, and all the stages in between. Isnt it time we took stock and finally realised that this just isnt the way. Belief in god is based on fear, all religions teach that their way is right and if you do not follow you will die, or have everlasting torment or cutting off. Quite remarkable as they all profess to be teachings based on love of fellow man and peace. Religion has had its day, it hasnt worked, so what is the alternative to tickle the ears of the masses? Time to move on.

INVOLUNTARY?

31.01.08, 5:20pm

Like any other religion, Islam is entirely voluntary. The only sense in which it is involuntary is that apostates, when discovered, are generally killed.

So being anti-Islam is a form of racism? Please, someone, tell which race, exactly, Islam is. I've asked this question before but no one has ever been able to give me an answer.
