OVERSEAS POLICE UNIT MAY BE SET UP

Monday February 4,2008

A national police unit could be set up to deal with the growing demand for British officers to work on high-profile overseas investigations.

Scotland Yard is drawing up proposals for a team of officers to specialise in foreign assignments. The department would include detectives, forensic experts, counter-terrorism officers and linguists.

The plans come as British police forces are increasingly drawn into testing inquiries across the globe.

Scotland Yard is held in high regard by many foreign governments despite blows to its reputation at home in the wake of the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes. But foreign investigations are often politically-sensitive and expensive with no agreed guidelines on who foots the bill.

Last month officers from Scotland Yard travelled to Pakistan to investigate the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. Detectives also flew to Jamaica after the mysterious death of cricket coach Bob Woolmer and assisted the Portuguese authorities in their hunt for Madeleine McCann.

Commander Dave Johnston, head of Scotland Yard's murder and serious crime unit, has held talks with Home Office officials on the plans.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We can confirm Commander Dave Johnston has been in initial discussions with the Home Office regarding a proposal for a national investigative team who would be deployed, when requested by the source country, to overseas criminal investigations.

"This discussion and proposal is at a very early stage and no decisions have yet been made."

In 2004, Scotland Yard shelved plans to re-establish a dedicated war crimes unit because of financial concerns.

At that time members of the Metropolitan Police Authority, the force watchdog, said any specialist unit should receive extra national funding.

OVERSEAS POLICE UNIT MAY BE SET UP?

05.02.08, 10:32am

iT ALREADY EXISTS !
Its called "Europol" and it has been working at a very hidden level for 10 years !!
It is the European version of the FBI/ CIA and has powers that have already been agreed at government level... any Europol Officer can take command of any police situation...in any state..They can also arrest any euro citizen anywhere and also they have no right to silence, and under the european justice system, Corpus Juris, anyone arrested will have to Prove themselves innocent... (no presumption of iinnocence.)
So you too will be joining the poor Mc Cann family !
The H.Q is in Holland ... clearly the british local government feel that europol needs reselling to the British People...
Sooner or later the British will wish they had left europe behind when they could.... before the Treaty of Lisbon is signed, because after that....you cant.

ANOTHER LABOUR SCAM!

04.02.08, 4:47pm

Just when you think you have seen it all, along comes another waste of taxpayers money idiot idea! But of course it is another back door way of getting the EU police force up and running! Just like the EU army, that too is up their sleeves! Until in the end, the country called England has become nine autonamous regions of the wonderful EU superstate, which is what the rats in Brussels have lurking in the shadows, just waiting for the time to strike! And it is getting closer by the day! Time to vote UKIP!

OVERSEAS?

Why are we sending coppers overseas there are not enough here. So once again the British taxpayer props up the other countries services. Why do we provide the world with our limited funds when the vast majority in the third world hate us.

YES,SUPPOSE IT COULD

How are we to know that it is not the begining of a Euro force, the real reason our police force has been systematically undermined by this government. I would not put it pass them,in by the back door again, like the treaty just a little change of name , think about it.
