UK NEWS‘MUSLIM LAWS MUST COME TO BRITAIN’Friday February 8,2008 By Macer HallThe Archbishop of Canterbury was accused of surrendering to Muslim extremists last night by calling for Islamic sharia law to rule in parts of Britain.
Dr Rowan Williams claimed incorporating aspects of the Muslim legal system into UK law was now “unavoidable” and “appropriate” and said believers should not have to choose between “the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty”. [>
The Church of England’s most senior cleric also backed demands for Islamic courts to [>
settle divorces and other disputes between Muslims living in Britain. [> [> But his remarks sparked a storm of protest. Sharia law has been used to justify stoning, beheadings and other brutal punishments in many Muslim countries. In extreme cases, Islamic courts have even put people to death for converting to Christianity. [>
Trevor Phillips, chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, said the Archbishop’s thinking was muddled and unhelpful and the implication that British courts should treat people differently based on their faith was divisive and dangerous. [>
“It risks removing the protection afforded by law, for example, to children in custody cases or women in divorce proceedings. There is a fundamental principle here – when you appear before a court in Britain you appear as a citizen, equal to any other and should be treated equally.” [>
He added: “Follow the logic of this extreme multiculturalism through and where do we end up? [>
“With a group of white Christians in Barking and Dagenham deciding they had a conscientious objection to non-white Muslims in their neighbourhood and seeking the support of the courts? [>
“I don’t doubt the Archbishop’s desire to accommodate diversity, but we cannot do so at the expense of our common values.” [>
Gordon Brown declined to condemn the Archbishop’s remarks, and Downing Street even suggested some laws could be changed to reflect Muslim sensitivities. [>
The Prime Minister believed that “British laws should be based on British values”, his spokesman said, going on to add: “There are instances where Government has made changes, for example on stamp duty, but the general position is that sharia cannot be used as justification for committing breaches of English law nor can its principles be used in civil courts.” [>
In a strikingly conciliatory tone, the spokesman said Mr Brown had a “good relationship” with the Archbishop. Downing Street was virtually alone in refusing to join the outcry, however. [>
Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, Shadow Minister for Community Cohesion, said: “The Archbishop’s comments are unhelpful. [>
“Freedom under the law allows respect for some religious practices. But let’s be absolutely clear. All British citizens must be subject to British laws.” [>
Tory MP Mark Pritchard called the Archbishop’s remarks naive and shocking. “He may want to run up the white flag of surrender over Lambeth Palace, but there are many who do not.” [>
Mike Judge, of the Christian Institute, said: “The fact that we all obey the same law, whatever our religion, is an important principle of the British way of life.” And Stephen Green, national director of Christian Voice said: “This is a Christian country with Christian laws. If Muslims want to live under sharia law then they are free to emigrate to a country where sharia law is already in operation.” [>
Many leading Muslims also rejected the Archbishop’s remarks. Labour MP Khalid Mahmood said: “This will alienate people from other communities because they will think this is what Muslims want and it is not.” [>
Dr Williams’s remarks came in an interview with BBC Radio 4 yesterday, ahead of a speech last night to members of the legal profession. He argued that the legal system needed to be reformed to recognise different religious convictions within Britain’s multi-faith society. [>
“It seems unavoidable and, as a matter of fact, certain conditions of sharia are already recognised in our society and under our law, so it is not as if we are bringing in an alien and rival system. [>
“There is a place for finding what would be a constructive accommodation with some aspects of Muslim law as we already do with aspects of other kinds of religious law. [> [> "It would be quite wrong to say that we could ever license a system of law for some community which gave people no right of appeal, no way of exercising the rights that are guaranteed to them as citizens in general. [>
“But there are ways of looking at marital disputes, for example, which provide an alternative to the divorce courts as we understand them. In some cultural and religious settings they would seem more appropriate.” [>
He did admit that some Islamic punishments could be inhuman. [>
But he added: “But I do not think we should instantly spring to the conclusion that the whole of that world of jurisprudence and practice is somehow monstrously incompatible with human rights.” [>
Dr Williams said Orthodox Jewish courts already operated in the UK. [> [> [>

I'M AFRAID HE'S RIGHT

Islam is a political and legal system that presents itself as a religion.islam is sharia, and sharia is islam. As our government bows and scrapes to every demand from islam, both real and imagined, and their numbers continue to grow through uncontrolled immigration and their mass breeding programme, sharia becomes inevitable.
I just wish he didn't appear so pleased about it.

MUSLIM LAW

The Archbishop of Canterbury, should be horsewhipped all the way to Saudi Arabia and then tried in a Sharia Court for being a total imbecile. What a total dope. He should be kicked out of office and left to slip into obscurity. If he thinks he speaks common sense and is giving a Christian view of things, then he should realise how far off the mark he is and resign. Why should we allow Sharia Law to operate openly in this Country? One of the reasons we went into Afghanistan (we were told) was because of the barbaric way the Taliban opressed the Afghan people and especially the Women (using Sharia Law)
. So the good old Archbishop then goes and advocates Sharia Law operating here. In case the buffoon forgot, we still have troops fighting and dying out in Afghanistan, trying to eliminate the same people who operated Sharia Law, to such devastating effect.
What is it with the Muslim's? Why does no other segment of society demand, complain, scrounge and claim, more than them? They are trouble and are more trouble than they are worth. They have no concept of society or of showing gratitude of any kind, to a Country that has supposedly given them a better way of life. They would be better shutting their mouths and thanking Allah that a Country like Britain exists where they are able to be given shelter and food and the opportunity to start a new life. All things lacking and not on offer in Muslim Country's. They take more than they give and we are stupid for allowing it to carry on. They have nothing but contempt for our softness and we probably deserve their contempt.

OVER MANY DEAD BODIES

That the Arch-bishop is surprised at people's reaction must confirm more so that he is an absolute fool.
The man is not fit for his job. That he should have a place in our Parliament is beyond reason.
The only good thing is that he may have wakened up the many who are sleep-walking into much future social strife and unnecessary costly trouble.
We always fancied that we in Britain were less involved with civil strife and less of a police state than other countries. But we simply then did not have their problems of a multi-cultural society. A multi-cultural society is nonsense, since what makes a society is the unity of its culture.
A multi-cultural society is a contradiction is terms and has not worked throughout history.

WHO IS THIS MAN REPRESENTING?

Sharia law coming into this country? This is a medieval, barbaric law! Good grief!!
Who is this man representing? I am sure it's not the majority of Muslims living in Britain, who are probably only too glad that they don't have to live under such barbaric law. Only just now I saw some Muslims on TV saying they didn't agree with this. It was also pointed out that his comments were fuelling bad feelings against ordinary Muslims in Britain.
So, is he representing the fanatics in this religion?
Is he representing Christians? I think not. I remember only too well the incident of the BA employee who was sacked for wearing a small cross at work, in a place where members of other religions are allowed to display publicly the signs of their faith. Where were the comments of the Archbishop in her defence then? Nowhere.
It seems to me that the Archbishop talks too much when he should keep his mouth shut, and when he should speak up he keeps quiet.
