WILLIAMS DEFENDS SHARIA LAW DEBATE

Story Image

Dr Rowan Williams says there's a place for sharia law

Sunday February 10,2008

The Archbishop of Canterbury defended his decision to raise the issue of sharia law, but accepted responsibility for any "misleading choice of words" that had caused the public "distress or misunderstanding".

Addressing the General Synod of the Church of England, Rowan Williams said he believed "quite strongly" that it was right for a senior member of the church to discuss the concerns of other religious communities.

Dr Williams was speaking in the wake of the hostile reception to remarks he made in a BBC interview last Thursday, in which he said the adoption of some aspects of Islamic sharia law in the UK "seemed unavoidable".

The interview preceded a public lecture at the Royal Court of Justice on civil and religious law in England from a religious perspective.

In his opening address to the Synod in London, the Archbishop said he thought certain aspects of his remarks had been distorted in the discussion that followed.

"Some of what has been heard is a very long way indeed from what was actually said in the Royal Courts of Justice last Thursday," he told the meeting in London.

"But I must, of course, take responsibility for any unclarity in either that text or in the radio interview, and for any misleading choice of words that has helped to cause distress or misunderstanding among the public at large and especially among my fellow Christians."

Dr Williams avoided using the word "sharia" throughout his 3,000-word address, which was met with warm applause.

The Archbishop thanked members of the church for their support over the weekend, and welcomed the serious reception his comments had received.

"I believe quite strongly that it is not inappropriate for a pastor of the Church of England to address issues around the perceived concerns of other religious communities and to try and bring them into better public focus," he added.

NOT BORN AGAIN BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

11.02.08, 10:40pm

HE IS NOT A TRUE CHRISTIAN.
DOCTOR ROWAN WILLIAMS: - CULTURAL LOYALTY AND STATE LOYALTY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CHRISTIANITY.

Our love, gratitude and loyalty extended by true Christians to the Lord Jesus Christ is our response to Him for our salvation. It is an immense privilege to belong to the One true invisible Church into which we are sealed unto the day we meet with Him in the Kingdom of Heaven.
It is well known by true Christians the world over that The Church of England is in serious error. I would not step over its thresholds. It preaches amillennialism, replacement theology (the Church has replaced Israel), infant baptism, confirmation and denial of the Rapture of the church saints. Of course, in the New Testament there is no such thing as a national church. In fact, the church and state were to be separated and furthermore the church is in subjection to the state and not the state to the church. So the national church government, though it has existed for many centuries in church history is not a biblical form of church government. The Biblical form of government is ruled by a plurality of elders and not by a congregation, nor by a hierarchy, nor by a national head. There are necessities and categories which require church discipline which are designed to bring the offender to repentance. One in particular relates to false teaching to anyone who has begun to teach falsely and blasphemes the Word of God (1Tim1:8-20). Discipline of such a person is necessary to preserve the purity of the church. What is happening today in the Church was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah who warned that in the last days of the Church Age: People will become spiritually blind, groping in spiritual darkness and having no spiritual sight now to see, fallen into a spiritual sleep with no capacity to understand... When someone who is learned is presented to them, although he has the training to understand things....even for the learned one, prophecies have become like a sealed book which he can no longer understand and he has now become like an unlearned one. Outwardly such people appear both religious and spiritual and continue to draw to God with their mouths and honour God with their lips but their hearts are far away from God and why is this? It is because they have no fear of God and prefer man-made doctrines, commandments and traditions rather than what God Himself has clearly taught in the Scriptures. Thus the validity of its movement is based on the externals of religion - robes and gowns, buildings made with hands, but those within do not have the substance and the life. They follow man-made doctrines and repeat phrases they are trained to repeat and believing in their folly they think that this makes them spiritual. The warning is issued that as time goes on there will be more and more false teachers who will go around deceiving others believing they are "God's anointed" but the fact remains they are deceived themselves. The problem within a Church which sits before this Archbishop and believes all he says to be correct is that they are themselves spiritually naked and lack salvation. 11 Tim 3:5 "Holding to a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof; from these also turn away" Apostate ministers in clerical garb and with church titles which present a form of godliness speaking hypocrisy....This man reaches out to the world around him to encourage people to honour laws set forth in the Koran and in so doing blasphemes the Word of God..

But he is worse much worse.

Gordon Brown has said he wants Britain to become the centre of global Islamic banking; Saudi Arabia and other Islamic states are buying up more and more British and Western companies, and we now have "Sharia-compliant" mortgages.

Nothing less than a complete sell out

That coupled with the rest of this government’s headlong plunge into the Islamisation of Britain
passing laws left right and centre to accommodate them.

Tariq Ramadan the most dangerous man in Britain as the main protaganist for the
"Muslim Brotherhood" in the UK

NO DEFENCE

11.02.08, 11:44am

I have never taken to Dr Rowan Williams as he has always looked like a Pharisee to me. He may be of high intelect, but he doesn't cut it with me regarding being head of the church. Christians have been leaving the C.O.E for years, or changing to Catholic. This latest outburst takes the biscuit and angered yet more Christians to leave the church and set up their own Bible study groups, in their homes. The church needs a strong leader that fights the Christian corner and shuns anything that is alien to its belief.

11.02.08, 10:28am

We do not want any part of it, now or in the future we have our laws anyone acting outside them should be made to obey them or suffer the consequences, not allowed to get away with it in the name of religion, too ma ny wars have been fought over religion, after all it is only personal beliefs and no one size fits all ,thats why all the controversey happens
