HOUSEWIVES ARE WORTH £30,000 A YEAR

Housewives are working full-time for free

Tuesday February 19,2008

THE average housewife works her fingers to the bone for 8.8 hours a day, seven days a week – and all for no pay.

But if she went out to work and did exactly the same chores, she would earn almost £30,000 a year, a survey has revealed.

Household errands, childcare and cooking mean that hectic housewives have little time to themselves.

The poll of 4,000 women – carried out by the social networking site www.alljoinon.com – revealed that childcare takes up most of their time.

The average housewife spends 4.55 hours a day getting her children dressed, feeding them, entertaining them after school, helping with homework and getting them ready for bed.

A nanny working the same hours would be paid a healthy £36.40, based on an average hourly wage of £8.

A further 71 minutes a day is spent tidying, for which a cleaner would get £7.10, while the 14 minutes a day spent making the beds would earn a chambermaid £1.29. Cooking is another big chore, taking up 63 minutes of a housewife’s day. By comparison, a head chef on £16.48 an hour would get £17.30.

A further 28 minutes a day is spent washing up, for which a qualified kitchen assistant would be paid £2.57. Paying the bills and sorting out the finances takes up a further 39 minutes, work that would earn £12.50 for an accountant on an average wage.

Housewives also spend 23 minutes a  day driving their children to school or the shops. The average taxi driver would earn £2.53 for the same trips.

And finally, the 89-minute weekly shop means women spend the equivalent of 18 minutes a day trawling supermarkets for food – for which a mystery shopper would be paid £2.10.

Unsurprisingly, 71 per cent of the women polled say theirs is a full-time job and 66 per cent feel unappreciated by partners and children.

Carolyn Morris, from www.alljoinon. com, said: “Women wish they had more time to meet friends away from unfulfilling tasks like ironing and washing.”

IS ANY WOMAN OUT THERE EARNING LESS THAN £30K

20.02.08, 1:53am

If so you are idiots according to this article as you could just be an unqualified housewife worth £30K.
I agree with the person who said it would be cheaper to use a prostitute with no ties, as far as looking after the kids if it's such a burden why did they bother breeding them.

THIS KIND OF RUBBISH ALWAYS ANNOYS ME

19.02.08, 8:30pm

"This kind of rubbish always annoys me: it’s unhelpful and pointless."

It clearly demonstrates that the media are finding it more difficult to write interesting stories, does it not?

However, playing the silly games:

It's far cheaper to hire a prostitute with no ties and little chance of some money grabbing b**ch taking all of your hard cash ;)

Besides that, most of them don't earn money by way of housework or office jobs; in fact they don’t know what hard work means.

Now that's a fact.

Assuming your figures are correct, then why do the Government say it's acceptable for a woman to work for a retail chain on a fraction of the figures here?

WHATY A LOAD OF HORROCKS

19.02.08, 7:48pm

I leave my house at 630 to return at 6pm then I help my "house wife" as they call her around the house as she is physically disabled. Also I give every penny I have to her as she is the one caring for our home and our family most of the time as I am at work. If you cant write something worthwhile you should get a different job. Bull Sh*t!

MOTHERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHOOSE WHETHER TO GO TO WORK

19.02.08, 5:50pm

This government undervalues mothers who choose to be housewives. The research shows that most mothers want to stay at home when they have their babies and then have part-time work when the children are at school. We used to get tax allowances for married women and mothers but socialism hates the family and has ended all that. A big bonus would be that if more mothers stayed at home the crime rate would come down; this is also proved by the research.

WHAT A PIECE OF DISINGENUOUS RESEARCH

19.02.08, 3:15pm

This kind of rubbish always annoys me: it’s unhelpful and pointless.

Around here, in Norfolk, it is common to see husbands leaving the house between 7.30 and 8.00 in the morning. They tend to return well after 5.00 in the evening – sometimes not until 6 – 6.30.

Then weekends see husbands mowing, washing the car, doing DIY…

And then there’s the overtime.

I’m sure commuters could add a couple of hours either way on their journeys.
And I’m sure this isn’t just Norfolk.

Do men feel any more appreciated or fulfilled?? Probably not.

I’m not some earth-mother figure who thinks that women are better off at home: it’s always down to the individuals to choose, but of all the things that are going on in the world you have to report this kind of facile nonsense?

If women are unhappy: change your life.
If men are unhappy: change your life.

It’s not rocket science.
