Asked if the gold lamé and black sequin suit she sported was designer, the star who sizzled in movies like The Outlaw and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, laughed: “Yeah, 20 years ago – I got my use out of it too, I’ve worn this to the Academy Awards four years in a row and I’m gonna wear it plenty more times too.”

Despite her own thriftiness, Jane, 86, was vocal about other stars’ outfits. She was seen grimacing at Tilda Swinton’s “garbage sack” of an evening gown, at Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody’s tattoos and was heard moaning about the lack of clean-shaven men.

She didn’t much go for Daniel Day-Lewis’s earrings either, telling friend Tab Hunter that he “reminded her of a fortune teller.” Who did she like? Well, Jane adores Johnny Depp and fancies George Clooney.

So 10 out of 10 for taste there then Jane!
