ARE OUR MPS MONEY-GRABBING FREELOADERS?
Should this be allowed Mr Brown?
By Jason Groves
MPs are set to hand themselves a new £160-a-day allowance just for turning up to work.
The tax-free attendance handout, which comes on top of a £60,000 salary, would be paid to all MPs in a major shake-up of their controversial expenses. The new payment, designed to cover the cost of living in London, is being considered by a committee set up by the Speaker.
It would replace the existing second homes allowance, which has been heavily criticised for being too lax, but critics last night said it would encourage a “turn up, sign in and go home” culture because MPs would not have to attend debates or vote to get the extra cash.
Lib Dem MP Norman Baker, who has campaigned for greater transparency about expenses, described the move as a backward step.
“I think the public will see this as a cynical fix,” he said. “It is further evidence that a culture of openness has not taken root at Westminster.
“Any allowances should be directly related to expenses MPs have actually incurred because they are doing a job in London. It would be quite wrong to pay a flat daily rate that has no relation to the actual costs."
Do YOU think our MPs are money-grabbing freeloaders? Should they be given a £160-day-allowance for turning up to work?

I was thinking more of Guy Fawkes or even Dick Turpin...
When Turpin demanded money from people, at least he wore a mask!

CORRUPTION AT ITS WORSE

It is time that MPs realised the TRUTH, they are not worth anywhere near the salaries and PERKS received.
They cannot compare themselves with the Private sector in any shape or form, they do not perform on the same scale or accept responsibilities as is the norm in the real world.
We must also include so called heads of and senior staff of local councils in this " money-grabbing" scenario as quite a few of them are on mind boggling salaries/perks, and as mentioned are just NOT WORTH a fraction of the amounts being frittered away on them.
Also included should be heads of the ever increasing quango's, they are just beyond any form of understanding, apart from possible bolt holes for discredited MPs to slope off to.
The country would be viable once again if these matters were attended to, but sooner rather than later should be the order of the day.
