MISSING: Shannon Matthews

Monday March 3,2008

By Emily Garnham for express.co.uk

THE mother of missing nine-year-old Shannon Matthews wept today as she urged anyone holding her to let her go.

In an emotional press conference held this afternoon, Karen Matthews said she was convinced her daughter had been taken and pleaded for anyone holding her to let her come home.

In a direct plea, she said: “Whoever has got Shannon, please let her go.”

She told how her daughter’s disappearance had made her question her trust for friends and wider family in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

“The family don’t feel safe any more - it has broken the family apart," she said.

Karen Matthews made an emotional appeal

“I can’t trust the people who are really close to me anymore.”

Mrs Matthews said she accepted police were looking at criminal records of Shannon’s relatives and added she was happy with the police enquiry so far.

She added that since Shannon’s disappearance she cried herself to sleep at night and could not go into her daughter’s bedroom.

SHANNON COME HOME

03.03.08, 8:34pm

My heart goes out to Shannon's mother. This distraught picture of her says it all. Nothing like Maddie's mother's performance. Being a mother myself I pray for Shannon's safe and speedy return to her family, where she belongs. If anyone is holding her have pity please.
