Sunday March 30,2008

The mother of teenager Scarlet Keeling, who was raped and murdered in Goa has arrived back in the UK with her daughter's body.

Fiona MacKeown touched down at Heathrow Airport on a flight from Mumbai, India, which also carried her daughter's coffin.

The half-naked body of the 15-year-old was found on Anjuna Beach, Goa, where she was on holiday, on February 19.

Mrs MacKeown has been battling the Indian authorities ever since they initially said the death was an accidental drowning.

She called for a second post-mortem examination which revealed Scarlett was attacked.

In emotional scenes at Heathrow's Terminal Three a barefooted Mrs MacKeown hugged family members who met her off the flight before they journeyed back to north Devon to make plans for the funeral.

Mrs MacKeown said she was tired and "relieved" to be back but vowed to return to India soon to ensure the investigation into her daughter's death continues.

Mrs MacKeown believes Scarlett was raped by more than one man and has claimed links between police, politicians and the drugs mafia have hampered a proper investigation.

Following the second post-mortem detectives said Scarlett was given Ecstasy, cocaine and LSD on the night she died.

A pathologist's report said Scarlett was killed by drowning after her head was pushed under water for between five and 10 minutes. Police have arrested two men in connection with her death.
