DEVASTATED: Scarlett's mother Fiona MacKeown

Tuesday April 1,2008

By Nicola McCafferty for express.co.uk

THE mother of murdered teenager Scarlett Keeling landed at Heathrow airport last night after the devastating task of bringing her daughter’s body back to Britain.

Fiona MacKeown arrived on a flight from Mumbai, India with her 15-year-old daughter’s coffin at 7.10pm yesterday.

Looking distraught and tired, a barefooted Mrs MacKeown embraced family members who awaited her emotional arrival at Heathrow’s Terminal Three before they journeyed back to north Devon to make plans for her daughter’s funeral.

The half-naked body of her daughter Scarlett was found on Anjuna Beach, Goa on February 19.

Initially the Indian authorities claimed her death was a result of accidental drowning, but after a second post-mortem examination it was revealed that Scarlett had been attacked.

Traces of a deadly cocktail of hard drugs - including LSD and cocaine – were discovered in the schoolgirl’s system before she was raped and killed.

MURDERED: Scarlett

Local police found her semi-naked body on a beach in Goa.

Mrs MacKeown said she was tired and “relieved” to be back in Britain but vowed to return to India soon to ensure the investigation into her daughter’s death continues.

She believes Scarlett was raped by more than one man and has claimed links between police, politicians and the drugs mafia have hampered a proper investigation.

A pathologist’s report said Scarlett was killed by drowning after her head was pushed under water for five to 10 minutes.

Police have arrested two men in connection with her death.
